If you are struggling with cracked or bumpy walls, skimming or 'skim plastering' may be the answer. It involves applying two thin coats of plaster to smooth walls or ceilings - leaving the surface perfect and ready to paint or wallpaper.

Skimming is ideal for all wall types – new construction and refurbishment works. If you are looking for a imitation lime finish universal one coat would be a good equivalent.

Plaster boarding is a method we use frequently when studwork is involved, this is where plaster board is applied to the ceilings and walls to achieve a level flat finish. It is tapped and then skimmed with plaster to give it that perfect smooth finish.

Tacking is a term for dry lining when you are applying the plasterboard to metal or timer substrates. Tacking is ideal for renewing ceilings or walls on refurbishment works or new timber / metal stud partitions.

Similar to tacking, if the plasterboard is applied to masonry, then it is called dot and dab. This is because the plasterboard is applied with dabs of plaster adhesive before it is sealed.

Dot and Dab is ideal for newbuilds / extension walls / refurbishment walls – it saves drying time compared to internally rendered walls.
